Radio Cornwall Interview

I am looking forward to listening to Tiffany Truscott’s Interview with ‘Janice Rose’, the Author of the 2 Children’s books that I have illustrated to date, on Wednesday 30th December at 7.30pm on Radio Cornwall.

The first book ‘Gilbert the Scilly Cat’ is a true story about her family cat, which her daughter and now husband found as a very young kitten on St Martins (albeit some 25 years ago). Gilbert had an adventurous life and was even kidnapped in real life, and so his life is one not to be missed. For the story she changed the names to two of her grandchildren.

The second book, ‘The Sea Party’ was created by 2 cousins, (two of her seven grandchildren) onboard the Scillonian on their way to their annual family holiday on St Martins. Janice was listening to their conversation as they wondered how far below the waves, the sea mermaids lived, and if they had parties, so their imagination ran away with them. She surprised them and wrote their story, but included how the mermaids had to clear the sea bed of marine litter before their party. And so the book has taken on an important topical subject.

The books have been produced very locally; Janice lives near Liskeard, the proofreader is from Looe, the illustrator Yvette Wiltshire lives in Pensilva and they were printed in Lostwithiel.
